Video: An Argument Leads To A Man Shooting His Wife Five Times

CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-A Clay County man is now behind bars after he shot his wife of just three months five times.

33-year-old Damaris Quinn is charged with domestic aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The wife, who’s name is still not being released at this time, is currently in stable condition at a Tupelo hospital.

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott said  it was an on-going argument between the couple that led to the gunfire.

“Well, from all intent and what we could tell, he was definitely trying to kill her,” said Sheriff Scott. “Being shot five times is kind of uncommon for some of the ones we work. Most times it’s one or two shots, but there was no doubt with his intent with shooting five times.”

After being shot several times in her chest area, hand, and legs, Sheriff Scott said the woman was able to run next door to a family member’s house for help.

“It appears that he actually was able to get up and run next door to another family member’s residence,” said Sheriff Scott. “At this point and time it appears that some family members intervened and took the gun away from him and held him until we got there.”

Family members tell WCBI they are still in shock and still trying to wrap their minds around this entire situation.

They also said Quinn was suffering from depression and hadn’t taken his medicine over the past few weeks.

“The domestic disturbances now that law enforcement work, it seems like over the years have been more violent, more times there are weapons involved,” the sheriff said.

According to family members,  this wasn’t Quinn’s first run in with the law.

The 33-year old had been our of prison for just over a year prior to Tuesday’s shooting.

Sheriff Scott says the victim underwent a successful surgery at a Tupelo hospital after she was airlifted from the scene of the shooting.

“She’s fortunate,” said Sheriff Scott. “Anyone of them could have been fatal that she had in the chest area, but the good lord blessed her, she was very blessed to be able to be here today.”
Quinn was arraigned on Tuesday.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the shooting.
