Video: Promote The Vote
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Some Columbus students went to college on Thursday, the Electoral College that is.
The Promote the Vote program made a stop at Heritage Academy.
The statewide initiative is designed to inform students about the current election and the importance of voting.
Guest speakers hit the high points of the platforms of the different political parties.
“It’s a great way for the students. They do the mock election through October. We will do a school total for the state, before the real election on November 8th, and it just gets them engaged, and lets them know what’s happening, and today, I’ll talk a little about the ballot. The ballot that we’re using is the same when they go vote on November 8th,” says Mississippi’s Assistant Secretary of State for External Marketing, Sherri Bevis.
The Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office organizes the event.
