Video: Winona Is Wanting To Tighten Up The Leash Law

WINONA, Miss. (WCBI) – Winona is trying to put a little more ‘bite’ into the town’s dog’s ordinance.

They’re tightening up the leash law.

The proposed changes include increasing the fine to $250 dollars for the first offense.

Then up to a $500 dollar fine, and as much as three months in jail for a second offense.

Mayor Jerry Flowers believes the changes are needed to keep people safe.

“Every place has animals on the loose. If you have viscous animals in your town that might attack small children or anybody, then it needs to be taken care of, and so we’re just trying to do this, trying to make all of our citizens safe from any animal that might be at large,” says Flowers.

Aldermen are expected to discuss the issue Tuesday night.
