Video: A Nation Divided Starting The Healing Process

STARKVILLE, Miss.(WCBI)—Last night we got a realistic look into the future leadership of the country. Both parties ran a tough campaign, inciting high emotion from both sides of the Aisle.

Now it’s the day after and many are left with the question of how to unify a divided nation.

” The country was already ruined so I think he’s just going to add on to the turmoil we’re going through right now and all I can say is we need god more than ever,”said Columbus resident Kie’andra Sherrod.

“I keep thinking in a country full of billions of people those two were the best we could do? But I do believe president elect trump does have the best intentions for our country,” Columbus resident Marianne Wright.

Donald Trump is on tract to becoming America’s 45th president. Leslie Fye of Starkville Councilor Associates says elections can be tough not just on the candidates but the voters as well.

” The most difficult part of this election is it reveled how divided we are as a society,” said Fye.

Fye goes on to says the first step moving forward is showing support for the president-to-be.

” He’s now the president our the United states and what we need to do as individual citizens and as community is do our best to support and bring out the best in our president rather than the worst,”said Fye.

Fye says in order to do our part as citizens we must work to mend our party differences and focus more on similarities.

” Moving forward I think so much of the election process is about identifying differences so you can figure out which way you want to vote but once we elect a leader our goal is to identify how we are united and identify what we have in common. I think if we put our hope and our energy into coming together,” said Fye.

Social media is a powerful tool and Fye says that it could be instrumental in unifying the country

“The best way to use social media moving forward is to extend our care and concern for our neighbor whether they agreed with us or disagreed with us. I think it’s important to put out messages of hope right now I think we need to remind each other what’s great about our nation.

For the residents who are still shocked by Tuesday Night’s Out come Fye says now is the time to work for change.

“If we have differing opinions about something that he stands for then go get involved in the process you know. re-double your efforts to go get out there and speak for what ever your passionate about. As long as the tenor or the tone is positive and respectful,”said Fye.
