Video: The Salvation Army Provides An Early Thanksgiving Lunch

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – An early Thanksgiving lunch was served to dozens of residents in Columbus on Tuesday.

The Salvation Army provided a free meal to those less fortunate.

People were able to sit down and have volunteers serve them turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, and dessert.

Part of the lunch was paid for by the group’s Red Kettle Campaign, but a lot of it was donated by other organizations.

“About six days ago, we weren’t sure how we were going to do it, and I was talking to my staff and I said, this community is going to step up to the plate. They did when we went to Lafayette to serve people in the floods, and I knew they would, and they did,” says Columbus Salvation Army Commanding Officer, Major Alan Phillips.

Other groups throughout the area will also be feeding people throughout the week.
