West Point Police Looking For Video Of Union Hall Murder
PRESS RELEASE
The West Point Police Department is asking anyone with cellphone video recordings to come forward to assist with their investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred in the early morning hours the day after Thanksgiving. According to Tim Brinkley, Chief of Police, the investigation has been hampered by a lack of witnesses who are willing to cooperate with authorities to bring the shooters to justice. To date no arrests have been madein the shooting which took the life of 21 year old Dajah Shaw

“I don’t think that many of the witnesses who we know are out there are afraid of retaliation; I just think they really don’t want to get deeply involved. Even though we keep informant‘s identity strictly confidential, we constantly struggle against the “code of the street” concept. A lot of our younger generation consider themselves bound to this unwritten code that you don’t trust or cooperate with the police; no matter what. That kind of attitude is detrimental to our criminal justice system and our communities as a whole,” Brinkley said.
However, according to authorities, the investigation is not at a standstill. “We know that multiple shots were fired inside the building from at least two different locations. An autopsy was completed Monday and a preliminary ballistic examination has been conducted. Event coordinators, security personnel, and witnesses are being interviewed. Statements are being compiled from people who we can identify as being at the scene.
It’s interesting that people hope everybody with pertinent information will come forward when something happens to their loved one and then withhold information that might help someone else. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered through the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever is responsible for the death of Dajah Shaw.
The incident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers or the West Point Police Department at 494-1244.
