Video: Judge Seeks Donations Of Backpacks-Duffel Bags For Foster Children

NEW ALBANY, MISS. (WCBI) – A Northeast Mississippi judge is asking churches, civic groups and individuals to help children caught in the web of addiction and despair.

First District Chancery Judge TK Moffett says he is saddened by the high number of children he must place into foster care, often because of a parent’s drug abuse and addiction.

Compounding the problem, Judge Moffett says most of the time, children are forced to pack all of their belongings in garbage sacks.

The judge is asking churches, and other groups to collect back packs and duffel bags for foster children. There is also a huge need for families to take in foster children.

“Where I got this idea, I met a young lady, 12 years old at the airport in Tupelo, some time ago and put her on an airplane to join her father in Omaha Nebraska.  She showed up at the airport with her possessions in a garbage bag and we can do better than children having to drag from place to place with their possessions in a garbage bag,” Judge Moffett said.
