VIDEO: Hamilton Man Cooks For A Good Cause
HAMILTON, Miss. (WCBI)- A Hamilton man is being recognized for more than 20 years of volunteer service in his community.
Charles Smith has been cooking Boston Butts and ribs for most of the week, helping to raise money for the Saint Jude Foundation.
It all began as a small, yearly, cookout sponsored by the youth group at Fig Hill Church. Now, it’s grown into a large community event.
Smith experienced health problems in recent years and prior to last year’s event, he had a cardiac procedure to help his condition.
After a successful recovery, Smith is back cooking for the community. Smith says he loves to give back and help raise money for Saint Jude.
“I wanted to take up where the kids we’re trying real hard make money for Saint Jude, and they wouldn’t have to go buy the meat. We could buy the meat and make it ourselves, but they bought it already cooked, that made me want to set some cookers and start cooking myself,” said Smith.
Smith was also awarded by the community a few years ago for his community leadership and volunteer services. This will be Smith’s last year to fire up the grill.
