Battle Over Gun Becomes Gun Battle
TUPELO (WCBI) – A Tupelo man faces several felony charges after police say attempted to steal a handgun, then shot the victim with the weapon.
Twenty year old Cornelius Bady Junior is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a felon.
On Tuesday morning, police say Bady was with two other men at a house on Payne Street. The three were looking at a handgun, and officers say Bady took the gun from the owner, and attempted to flee on foot.
When he was confronted about taking the gun without paying for it, police say Bady shot the victim once in the abdomen
Bady was arrested a short time later after an intensive search by Tupelo patrol officers.
The gun has not been recovered. Bady has a lengthy arrest record, including an outstanding MDOC warrant, along with a felony warrant from Tupelo Police for auto burglary. Bond was set at 125 thousand dollars.
