VIDEO: United Way Lending The Community A Helping Hand

COLUMBUS, Miss(WCBI)—It’s an old song, but it still holds true .

“We sure could use a little good news today.”

” I have these health issues and my age 83 makes a big difference. I just can’t do it,”said Elderly Columbus Resident.

Mow the yard. Clean the gutters. This Columbus resident needs a little help.

“That’s why I went to United Way. I knew several years ago they had helped me before,”said resident.

Renee Sanders is the United Way Volunteer Director for Lowndes County. Her heart went out to the lady in need.

“I saw myself a few years from now sitting in that same lobby talking with some United Way person saying can you help me cut my yard,”said Sanders.

Sanders says seniors who need help, need to say so.

“If you know that there’s a senior. An aunt, you have a grandmother, that needs the service call me. Lets put their names on a list and maybe the community will be willing to say, Renee I have a boy. I have a son. He’s 16, he’s in the boy scouts. He wants to do community service. Maybe we can collaborate together,” said Sander.

Sanders wants to match people in need with those who want to help.

Our homeowner is thankful for volunteers like Sanders.

“She was so concerned for me. I was so grateful she took such an interest in the fact that I really needed help. She just didn’t have any available,”said Columbus Resident.

She say she hopes this story helps others in the area, receive the help they need.
