Tupelo Police Look For Suspect In Attempted Child Abduction
TUPELO (WCBI) – July Fourth could have become a nightmare for a Northeast Mississippi family, who claims a stranger tried to kidnap their 7 year old daughter on a Tupelo street in broad daylight.
An eyewitness says she noticed a silver Pontiac Grand Prix drive up and stop next to a group of kids playing across the street from her house.
She says the driver opened his car door, grabbed the 7 year old girl, and threw her in his car.
The girl’s friends began screaming, alerting adults nearby, who ran to the front to confront the suspect.
The man threw the girl onto the ground, after she kicked him, and sped off.
Police tell us they are interviewing witnesses and hopefully will have more leads soon. The suspect is described as an African American male, balding. He was driving a silver or grey Pontiac Grand Prix. If you have any information on the suspect, call Tupelo Police at 662 841 6491.
The child’s mother says she is thankful her daughter escaped and wants other parents to be wary. WCBI’s Allie Martin will talk with her tonight at 9 and 10 on WCBI News
