Mississippi Unemployment Rate On The Rise

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI)- Mississippi’s unemployment rate rises but the number of jobs remains steady.

The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.3% in August.

That’s higher than last month but lower than this time a year ago. The rate was 5.8 last August.

The Mississippi Department of Employment Security says the state’s labor force decreased by nearly 6,000 people last month.

However, the number of non-farm jobs remained the same as July’s numbers.
