VIDEO: Coffeeville Day Of Celebration Is Back

COFFEEVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)-  A small Yalobusha County Town welcomes back a big community tradition.

“We really want the people of this community to know we are for each other. We plan to do this as a unit. If we can do this that means the sky is the limit,”said Coffeeville Mayor William Shelton.

After a 5 year hiatus, the Coffeeville Day of Celebration is back.

“In my campaign, I did say that we are going to make this community a better place to; live, to grow, and have recreation. That’s what our goal is to let people know that Coffeeville has something special and come to us to get it,”said Shelton.

Residents lined the streets early Saturday morning to enjoy; food performances from elementary, and Coffeeville High School students, and arts and crafts.

Saturday’s event took only five weeks to plan. Coffeeville Mayor William Shelton says that’s because of the large community effort.

” The community, I haven’t seen so much togetherness. Coming to help; clean up the street, helping to do things, potting flowers, saying this needs to be moved, this is an eye sore. Nobody complained about moving things from their businesses area. They wanted to help make sure this was a great day and not just a great today but from now on,”said Shelton.

Dominique Hardaman is a volunteer. She says the festival is a great opportunity to highlight the community but also the children.

” We try and help everybody with the booths that they have going on and let everybody know about the service projects that we’re having that’s going on within the school and try and tell them how we are helping their kids and how we are making the school better for the children,”said Hardaman.

Shelton says with the festival back by popular demand, he intends to keep it that way.

“We are annual set for this day. We got registered by the state. We’re going to do this every year first Saturday in October,”said Shelton.

The festival lasts till eight tonight, so there’s still time to head out there. Blues recording Artist Nathaniel Kimble takes the stage at six till the event concludes.
