COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – There was a flood of green in downtown Columbus today as residents from all over the Golden Triangle showed up to celebrate a long time tradition St. Patrick’s Day.
One local restaurant is taking the holiday opportunity to do some community good.
“We’ve got green beer here all day, we’ve got raffle tickets. We’ve got a lot of items that we’re going to be raffling off. We’ve got bands playing from 2-7pm,” said Zachery’s owner Doug Pellum.
That’s just to name a few things Columbus restaurant Zachery’s offered visitors of his annual St. Patty’s Day Celebration. This year, the local eatery partnered with the community to make a difference.
“Well Doug reached out to me a couple months ago and he’s done St. Patrick’s Day a long time but we wanted to do some good with it. He talked to the Humane society, got some things together, and the rest is history,” said REMAX Partners realtor Colin Krieger.
The Lowndes County Humane Society, in an effort to raise funds and awareness set up shop at the celebration and accepted; pet foods, cleaning supplies and monetary donations as well as provide pet adoption information.
Krieger says it took several boots on the ground, to get an event like this one up and running.
“We’re extremely excited about the turn out about the sponsorship and everything that the community has done, Huck’s, Better brand Zachery’s everybody has gotten together and just done a phenomenal job with these fur balls,” said Krieger.
Krieger says he’s thankful to be apart of making a difference in the area.
“Doug and Zachery’s are a big part of the leadership of this community. Everything they do is fundamentally wonderful and the Humane Society needs the attention a lot of charities in town need the attention and it’s good to see the community come together and do something important,” said Krieger.
Zachery’s Resturant Owner Doug Pellum says he will always give to the community that’s given him so much.
“We try to do things each and every month, to do fundraisers for the community because we’ve been blessed with so much business here ourselves. The Humane Society needs support from ever body,” said Pellum.
“We just want to thank everyone for coming out and we appreciate the support of Zachery’s for putting this all together and I hope everyone will come out and see us,” said Columbus Lowndes County Humane Society Director Karen Johnwick.
