Video: Local Veteran Spruces Up Columbus Cemetery
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Columbus cemetery is getting a much needed face lift after a local veteran noticed it needed some sprucing up.
Lee Ann Turk and her husband spear-headed the effort to clean up Greenlawn Memorial Park.
The cemetery on Highway 69 has up to 140 graves.
Today, October 27, volunteers showed up with their chainsaws, wheelbarrows, and other equipment to clean, trim around graves, and place flowers.
“My husband is a marine vet and he said Lee Ann I can’t handle the cemetery like this. So I said ok we need to get on Columbus MS Facebook watch page and see what we can find out about the cemetery and see if we can get you some help or what would become of it,” says Cleanup Coordinator, Lee Ann Turk.
Greenlawn is the final resting place to several veterans who fought in World Wars One, Two and the Korean War.
