VIDEO: Winston County Celebrates Its Veterans
LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – The Winston County Community rolls out the red carpet for the men and women who fought and died for our freedom.
Saturday morning Winston County residents lined main street in Louisville to pay tribute to the heroes of the area.
Nearly 50 veterans turned out for the appreciation ceremony. Louisville Main Street Director, Amy Hillyer, says working on an event this size requires a little assistance
“Larry Veazey is in charge of veterans services and he’s been excellent in helping get everything ready and communicating with the Veterans. Giles Ward has been instrumental as well in helping to get everything ready for the corner stone dedication. It’s been a fabulous work effort with the county, the city, mayor hill and everybody involved. We’re just excited to celebrate our veterans and celebrate the service they provide,” said Hillyer.
The parade concluded with a Veteran’s Day Ceremony. Louisville Mayor Will Hill says since we enjoy the fruits of the Veterans labor to this day it’s only right to give thanks.
“Well it’s very simple, we boast that we are a patriotic community and we are a patriotic community. We live in the land of the free because of all the brave men and women and it’s our duty I think to celebrate these veterans and it’s a wonderful opportunity to do so today,” said Hill.
The Veterans Day ceremony consisted of the presentation of colors from the Louisville High School JROTC, The national anthem the marching band and a musical performance from the Fair elementary Melody Makers.
The Winston County Louisville community is overwhelmed with with pride.
“We’re just proud of our Veterans from Winston county and their service. we couldn’t be more honored to celebrate them and their brave service to our country,” said Hillyer.
“I’m so proud of our community and the patriotic tributes throughout the year.The fact that we have veterans memorial drive with a blue start designated highway and we’re a purple heart community through the efforts of the lions club displaying the flag all of our events revolve around something patriotic memorial day july 4th and now Veterans day. We Salute our country and we salute our veterans,” said Hill.
The pilot club provides a breakfast for the veterans at the chamber every year before the parade and ceremony.
