North Mississippi Regional 4-H Shoot Competition

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Some area youth were “aiming” for high scores at the North Mississippi Regional 4-H shoot competition.

More than 200 youths from 10 north Mississippi counties were in Lowndes county Saturday morning.  They were participating in the the multi-county 4-H shoot competition. Ages 8 through 18 competed in archery, air rifle, and shot gun events.

Lowndes county 4-H extension agent Reed Nebins says Saturday’s event is much more than just about shooting. It also showcases gun safety, team work, and discipline.

“They practice all through the spring and every weekend with coaches and this is just a competition for them to compete against other kids and learn life skills,” said Nebins.

“It gives kids an opportunity to learn safety about shooting and come together and have fun competing against each other,” said 4-H Member Anna Beth Brock.

20 counties make up the North Mississippi 4-H Region.

Extension Agent Nebins says the other ten counties will compete later this month.
