Jury Selection Begins

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Jury selection begins today, December 4, in a Lowndes County capital murder trial.

Derrick Bankhead was convicted in September 2016 in Lowndes County Circuit Court.

However, that verdict was overturned.

Bankhead’s attorney learned that District Attorney Scott Colom was a stand-in defense attorney for Bankhead during a preliminary hearing in 2011.

Columbus police say Bankhead’s cousin, Eddie Bankhead, was shot during an armed robbery back in July 2011.

The state Attorney General’s office is prosecuting the case.
