VIDEO: No-show Leads To No Action At Aldermen Meeting
ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI)- For the second meeting in a row the Board of Aldermen in Aberdeen were unable to discuss any agenda items, after not meeting the quorum.
Aldermen Alonzo Sykes, David Ewing and Jim Buffington showed up for Tuesday’s meeting.
Mayor Maurice Howard didn’t show up at the last November meeting or the December 5th meeting.
Last week the city was notified of the mayor’s vacation plans for this week.
Without a majority vote, Aldermen were unable to move forward with any agenda items.
With that, the city employees will only be paid with what’s already in the city’s budget, meaning they won’t get overtime pay at this time.
The city’s contract with TVA is also in the already approved budget so the city will be able to pay that.
Aldermen declined to comment.
WCBI also reached out to Mayor Howard and we have not heard back.
The next meeting is December 19th which is when a special election is also being held to find Brunson Odom’s replacement.
Odom passed away last month from natural causes.
