Battle Against Building Mold
ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) – There is mold growing in the federal building in Aberdeen.
At a public hearing Thursday, the people who work there, along with two judges reported health related issues consistent with mold exposure.
Just last month, new locations of additional mold were discovered.
Due to the safety concerns, civil trials will now be in the Bankruptcy courthouse in Aberdeen and criminal trial will be in Oxford.
The General Services Administration plans to cleanup the building.
Judge Sharion Aycock says it’s been a 25 year battle but she is happy to see progress made.
“You heard a commitment today, GSA regional commissioner says that this is the highest priority in the southeast united states. That is the first time we’d heard that today. We hope to hold him to his word to get these renovations done as quickly as possible,” says Aycock.
The renovations are projected to cost $6.8 million.
Renovations to the building are estimated to begin in March 2018.
