Back Pay For The Blue

TUPELO (WCBI) -Tupelo is setting aside $857,000 to provide back pay to some city police officers

That’s because payroll for some officers had been miscalculated for 16 months and they were not paid overtime due under federal labor laws for public safety workers. The city says that is due in part because the police department had not properly documented officer work hours. The department had also not kept up with proper compensatory time records. The city is still determining how many officers are due a check. Once that is set and the US wage and Hour Division signs off, policemen will be notified and given a check for back pay  if they sign a release accepting that payment as compensation for any wage discrepancies. According to the city statement, there is a chance that some improper time keeping records could reach back for two decades.
