Man Accused Of Trapping Hawks To Improve Hunting
OXFORD (WCBI) – A Corinth man is accused of trapping and killing hawks in order to improve hunting at a Marshall County quail preserve plantation.
The federal information says Frederick Corder ordered a worker at the Cedar Oak Plantation to use pigeons and chickens to bait traps all across the property. Hawks and owls, which are both federally protected migratory birds, would then be captured and killed. The idea was to rid the plantation of the birds of prey and improve quail hunting and quail population during field trials held at the plantation. The actions took place between 2010 and January 2015. The 53 year old Corder could face a $15,000 fine and six month jail term on each of the nine misdemeanor charges against him. He is due to make his initial court appearance next month. You can read the federal case here.
