VIDEO: Power line Project Could Impact Golden Triangle

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- The controversy continues in the multi state power line project that could impact parts of the Golden Triangle.

Public Service Commissioner, Brandon Presley gave an update on the $700 million project.

Transmission lines would run through Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas.

Plans show that a $300 million transmission facility would be built near Columbus.

Local, state and federal agencies are still working to piece the project together and speaking with area landowners.

Presley is hopeful an agreement as to the route can be be reached early next year.

“There has been work between the company and some landowners who have been involved in this case that had objections, and so those are being worked on along with the public utility staff, to work out as many of those issues before it goes to a hearing as possible. We are a good ways down the field on getting a decision on this case. I look forward to probably to be decided sometime in the spring of the coming year,” said Brandon Presley, the Public Service Commissioner for the Northern District.

If the project becomes official, construction would begin in 2018 and be complete by 2021.
