VIDEO: Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over Campaign

NEW ALBANY, Miss.(WCBI) – As families prepare for the holiday season local law enforcement are doing the same.

The annual driver sober or get pulled over campaign is starting and area officers are already preparing.

Today, December 14, more than 15 law enforcement agencies gathered for lunch in New Albany to discuss keeping the community safe this holiday season.

Tis the season for many to hit the roads to head home for the holidays.

The Mississippi Law Enforcement Liason Group is making it their mission to keep residents safe.

“The highway patrol along with our local sheriff’s and police departments we will all be working together in this campaign to try and keep the drinkers off the road,”said Sherman Police Chief Joel Spellins.

” We’ll be looking for people out there that are drinking and driving. With drinking and driving people will be weaving and stuff in the roadway,” said Troop F Master Sargent Tony Dunn.

Spellins says residents will be seeing more officers as they move around this holiday season.

“There will be a lot more law enforcement presents there. There will be federal money spent on over time so you can expect to see them on the road, “said Spellins.

Studies show that more than 10 thousand people are killed in a drunk driving accident. Dunn says those statistics is why he is thankful for this life saving campaign.

“We don’t want anybody to get hurt or have any family members get killed in a traffic accident especially with someone drinking and driving,”said Dunn.

The campaign will conclude January first 2019.
