Happy Christmas Fund

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A group of residents are honoring senior citizens in Columbus.

The Happy Christmas Fund is doing their annual fruit basket delivery today, December 21.

Over 100 fruit baskets will be given to senior citizens to honor them for Christmas.

Happy Christmas Fund members along with members from the Columbus Air Force Base Honor Guard are delivering 80 to 90 baskets to homes across the area.

Chairman of the Happy Christmas Fund Board, George Irby, says today is one of the group’s proudest moments.

“That makes it worth all of the effort that the volunteers and board members put into it that we are brining those smiles to someone during this time you know, when we remember the birth of Christ and you’re bringing that smile on them at this time, it just warms your heart,” says Irby.

The remainder of the 120 baskets will be handed out sometime before Christmas.

Last week, the organization gave out over 300 gifts to children in the city and county.
