Columbus Police Working Shooting Death
COLUMBUS (WCBI) – Columbus Police head into the holiday weekend seeking to solve the city’s second homicide of 2017.
Just minutes after midnight, December 22, Columbus Police answered a shooting at the Motel 6 just off the 82 Bypass near 45.
That’s where they found one man suffering from gunshot wounds.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant has identified the shooting victim as 27 year old Michael Garth of Starkville.
Merchant says Garth’s body will be taken to Pearl for an autopsy.
The focus now shifts to Johnathan Lee Majors II of Columbus.
Police have identified Majors as a person of interest in Garth’s death but stop short of naming him a suspect.
Detectives say they do believe Garth was familiar with the person who killed him.
If you have any information about Majors you are asked to call Golden Triangle Crimestoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
