Columbus students schooled on legendary Tuskegee Airmen

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus Middle School Students spent the day getting a blast from the past.

The Commemorative Air Force Red Tail Squadron presented the students with a short film “Rise Above.”

The story follows the Tuskegee Airmen and the obstacles they overcame to be able to fly and fight for their country during World War II.

Today, students and visitors had the opportunity to learn the history of the Tuskegee Airmen through a fully functional mobile movie theater.

District Interim Superintendent Craig Shannon, Columbus Mayor Robert Smith and Lowndes County Superintendent Lynn Wright were all in attendance.

“It’s a great education experience with the students about the red tail experience. It’s a wonderful partnership between the city of Columbus and The Lowndes County School District and we’re just ecstatic about it and we were happy that we could partner for this educational experience,” says Smith.
The Commemorative Exhibit will visit Caledonia Middle School Thursday.
