OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) – An Abbeville woman has been charged with two counts of embezzlement for stealing more than $200,000.

Valerie Harmon first stole a little over $20,000 between March and November in 2011.

A second count of the indictment alleges she stole close to $200,000 between January and July of 2012 from a law firm where she was employed as a notary.

Harmon is free on a $5,000 bond after an arraignment in a Lafayette County Circuit Court.

Harmon pleaded not guilty.

  • How can anybody, given it is a lawfirm. In these tough times, have 20,000 much less 200,000 laying around for somebody to steal an keep for this period of time. Before they notice Wow. I guess when ur that wealthy it takes a few months to figure out where did I place that 200,000 hehehe myself I would be looking for 20 dollars if it was missing from my WALLET OR BUSINESS. HAHAHAHAHA ( LAWYERS)

Obviously it doesn’t matter to these thiefs whether it’s paper or plastic! They’re going to take it one way or the other. It’s sad that these employers, who chose to trust their employees, are the ones that get the short end. Just like the one who took $500K, didn’t bother her either. I hope justice is served for these offenders. Yeah, it’s pay your own way from now on. Whether behind bars or not, you are still thieves and should be treated as such. Too bad a hand for a hand doesn’t apply anymore, we’d be more careful when trusting one with one hand missing. And when handless, we’ll know they screwed up their 2nd chance as well…
