Video: Aberdeen Man Cleared In March Shooting Death
ABERDEEN (WCBI) – Jermaine Elliott is home tonight after an Aberdeen City judge Wednesday dismissed a murder charge against him.
Attorney Tony Farese says the case against his client was dismissed because he acted in self defense during the March 2nd incident involving Ronele Jones. Jones was in a dispute with a former girlfriend when Elliott came to her aid. That’s when Jones and Elliott began to fight and Jones started hitting Elliott with a pistol. That gun then went off hitting Jone3s in the neck. He walked away but was found dead about a block from the scene. During a preliminary hearing Wednesday, Aberdeen officers could nt deny that Elliott was acting in self defense. Based on that, Judge Shane Tompkins dismissed the charge and ordered Elliott released from custody. Even with the charge dismissed, the case could still be presented to the grand jury.
