Ackerman Receives A $5,000 Dollar Grant

ACKERMAN, Miss. (WCBI) – The city park in Ackerman will soon have a new attraction.

The town was awarded the Mississippi Hills Grant last month.

The five-thousand dollar award will be used to build new playground equipment at the downtown park.

An Ackerman resident, who learned about the grant opportunity, passed the information along to the mayor.

“It’s a heritage grant. For the most part, what they’re trying to do is make that area, an area that you can sell as tourism and we want to get into that market,” says Mayor Tim Cutts.

“We just have a need for more equipment and we’ve got a nice walking track that we established a few years ago and we just needed some additions to it, so this will be used to help on that,” says Ackerman resident, Vivian Coleman.

Mayor Cutts says says this is a matching grant, so the city will also provide money for the equipment too.
