Air Show 2 Weeks Away In Columbus
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- The Wings Over Columbus 2018 Open House and Air Show is just two weeks away.
Tragically, a Thunderbirds pilot was killed after a mishap during a flight training exercise in at the Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada Wednesday morning. The Thunderbirds are scheduled to perform at the air show here on April 21st and 22nd.
Airmen and women here are devastated after hearing the news of a fellow pilot losing their life.
Thousands are expected to attend this years air show.
CAFB Chief Public Affairs, Sonic Johnson says there’s plenty for everyone to enjoy on the two day event.
“We have 11 other aviation events happening throughout the day. We’re going to keep a spot open for the Thunderbirds, if they’re ready and have recovered. It’s a lot, what they’re having to go through,” said Johnson.
Along with all the sites in the sky, there’s also an open house where guest will get a chance to see what happens at the Columbus Air Force Base.
There’s also going to be a car show on top of nearly 50 other educational exhibits for everyone to enjoy.
Johnson went on to say they want those attending to be inspired.
Admission and parking is free. There will be concessions available. A few reminders, for security purposes there is a clear bag policy. There will also be a screening process to let people in.
Again, the air show is April 21st and 22nd from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rain or shine.
