Alabama GOP Reacts To Hubbard Conviction

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – The head of the Alabama Republican Party says the party is deeply disappointed that former House Speaker Mike Hubbard abused the public trust placed in him.

Party Chairwoman Terry Lathan issued the Monday statement about the conviction of the powerful Republican. She urged people not to judge all public servants by the shortcomings of a few.

A jury on Friday convicted Hubbard on 12 ethics charges.  He was automatically removed from office.

Lathan said party officials also offered prayers for the Hubbard family.

A judge will sentence Hubbard on July 8.
