Aliceville police investigate shooting, wind up finding dead body in car

ALICEVILLE, Ala. (WCBI) – A shooting in the streets of Aliceville Friday morning led investigators to a possible homicide.

Traffic on the police scanner reported shots fired near the Spiller Furniture Store in downtown Aliceville.

Witnesses told WCBI an officer and a suspect shot at each other.

They say the suspect also rammed a police vehicle.

Aliceville Chief of Police Tonnie Jones confirmed one person is in custody, but no charges have been filed yet.

When investigators arrived on the scene, sources told WCBI they discovered a dead body in the suspect’s vehicle.

Chief Jones did not say how the body is connected to the officer-involved shooting.

Chief Jones said the suspect was driving a stolen car. Witnesses from the scene said the suspect’s car had Tennessee license plates.

The Alabama State Bureau of Investigation was on the scene. They worked at three separate locations – near the furniture store, the Napa auto parts store and the Plantation House restaurant.

Initial reports are that neither the officer nor the suspect was injured. But investigators and local law enforcement have not confirmed any witness information.
