Alleged shoplifter accused of assaulting corrections officers and deputy

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Corrections officers and a deputy were assaulted while trying to book a suspect for allegedly stealing from a Dollar General.

Investigators say the shoplifting happened on Highway 1-82 East.

Deputies were called after an employee reported the incident.

When they got to the store, deputies were able to stop the car described by store clerks, recovered stolen items, and detained the alleged shoplifter, Antonio Conner.

After being arrested and charged, Conner allegedly started hitting and kicking the windows of the patrol car he was in.

When he got to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center, Conner allegedly spit on and kicked a deputy and corrections officers.

Connor was charged with shoplifting and three counts of simple assault on a law enforcement officer.
