Bill Increasing State Regulation Of Bail Bond Companies Heads To Governor’s Desk

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – A bill that would increase state regulation of bail bond companies is heading to Gov. Phil Bryant.

Bail bond agents would have to get licensed by the Mississippi Department of Insurance under Senate Bill 2664.

The bill would also establish a registry of licensed bail agents and a database to keep track of bonds that have been paid.

The Mississippi Senate sent the bill to Bryant for final approval or veto Tuesday.

State Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney has supported the legislation.

He says the bill will help the state tackle fraud and bring more transparency to the industry.
