Blue Devils Look For First Title in 28 Years

Water Valley, Miss. (WCBI) — Water Valley remembers what it was like to work for a state championship.

The year 1990 was the first and last time the Blue Devils won a state championship. Some of those victorious players became coaches and now with the 3A title on the line they guide this team in a similar direction.

“We talk about it a lot,” head coach Brad Embry said. “You know coach Mix, our defensive line coach played on that team and I was younger…I think a sophomore and played against them so I have some experience with that team. Football is important here and people still talk about that team. We are excited to get back to this point.”

“The people before us they had the same experience as us, and after twenty-eight years it just feels good to us of how we have that experiences,” senior offensive lineman Marley Cook said.

As great as the experience is, the coaches stress the importance of keeping the players emotions in-check.

“They said it was very exciting for them, and they said they know it’s going to be exciting for us, but they said to calm down it’s the state championship,” senior wide receiver Bud Tolbert said.
