BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. (WCBI/BMC Athletics) – Blue Mountain College has announced that Will Lowrey, a Biggersville, Miss. native, will be its new Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Lowrey, the current head baseball coach and director of development at Tupelo Christian Prep and distant relative of the college’s founder Gen. Mark Perrin Lowrey, becomes the institute’s fourth Athletic Director in its history.

“There is tremendous opportunity at Blue Mountain College,” Lowrey said.  “Jennifer (wife) and I are deeply honored and humbled to be a part of an effort to grow BMC.  I see a tremendous amount of passion for the programs.  When we get this energy all on the same page and going in one direction, the possibilities are endless.”

Lowrey has a diverse background in athletics, playing baseball at Delta State University where he was an All-Gulf South pick in 1997 and 1998.  He led the team in hitting during the 1997 season, batting .390 with seven home runs and 51 RBI.

He later continued his education, earning a master’s degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Administration from Western Kentucky University.

BMC President Dr. Barbara McMillin stated, “We are delighted to welcome Will Lowrey to Blue Mountain College.  He brings to the position a commitment to the faith-based mission of the college and a great vision for supporting the work of our athletic staff.  We expect that all of our programs will thrive under his leadership.”

On the coaching side, Lowrey guided his 2016 TCPS baseball team to a state championship. Before his time at TCPS, he owned and operated AdvantEdge Sports in Tupelo, Corinth and Jackson, Tenn. for over 10 years.  He currently serves as president/founder of the Bigger than Ball Foundation.

Current Interim AD Harvey Childers said of Lowrey, “I certainly believe he is a good choice and the right fit for Blue Mountain College.  He has good credentials with experience and I know he will do well.”

Lowrey remarked, “I enjoy building programs.  I am greatly looking forward to sharing the vision for the BMC athletic program throughout our region and watching it become a reality.  I’m also anxious to begin work with this fantastic group of coaches.  We would like to thank Dr. McMillin and all of the staff and coaches for making us feel like family.”

Lowrey and his wife Jennifer have a daughter, Jilanna, and currently reside in Tupelo.
