Body found in yard: Columbus police investigate as homicide

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus police are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead outside a home Thursday morning.

The victim was found on the front lawn of a home on 21st Street North Street before 8 a.m.

Lowndes County coroner Greg Merchant had identified the victim as 49-year-old Jerome Taylor.

Columbus Police Chief Joseph Daughtry said investigators believed Taylor was shot Wednesday evening.

Daughtry said people who live in the area reported hearing gunshots around 7 p.m. Wednesday night, but no one called the police.

Taylor did not live at the house but reportedly lived nearby.

No arrests had been made.
