Brent Rooker, Colby Bortles Represent Bulldogs, Rebels In Home Run Derby

OMAHA, Neb. (WCBI Sports) – Mississippi State’s Brent Rooker and Ole Miss’ Colby Bortles both competed in the College Home Run Derby Sunday night at the site of the College World Series.

Rooker hit 27 total home runs for a fourth-place finish in the event. He knocked out 15 first-round home runs, including drilling the first six pitches he saw out of the park. Rooker has elected to return to MSU for his senior season in 2017 despite being drafted this year.

Bortles hit ten home runs in the first round but did not advance. The slugger went undrafted this year and plans on returning for his senior season in Oxford.

The derby was nationally televised from TD Ameritrade Park. East Tennessee State’s Hagen Owenby won the event.
