VIDEO: Catching Criminals With Multiple ID’s
CALHOUN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Jose Antonio Maldonado was arrested Monday and is accused of raping and fathering the child of his daughter.
Calhoun Country Sheriff Greg Pollan said when investigators ran the prints on Maldonado, the varying identities piled up.
“It came back with multiple aliases, multiple dates of birth, multiple social security numbers…”, said Pollan, “…it showed he was possibly born in Mexico. There was another one in there that he was possibly born in Puerto Rico but after three days of weaving our way through the process, we actually found out he was born in New York…”
Pollan said when an incident similar to this occurs, investigators will first submit the information to the National Crime Information Center. The jail will then run the suspects’ prints on an Automated Fingerprint Identification System, where Pollan says “if they’ve ever been fingerprinted or in the system anywhere in the United States, all we have to do is scan their fingerprints and we get a hit back within ten minutes of them telling us who they truly are.”
Pollan said truly identifying someone can take days, and in the worst case scenario, almost a week.
Pollan also said the county deals with issues with illegal immigrants because the county “is known for their sweet potato industry”, and that immigrants will come to Mississippi for work.
Investigators are still trying to determine whether Maldonado is a U.S. citizen.
Pollan said outside agencies like the F.B.I. and Immigration and Customs Enforcement to help determine the identity of criminals with multiple aliases.
Investigators are still looking into Maldonado’s case and more charges are expected to be filed.
