VIDEO: Cell Phones To Be Added To Do Not Call List

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — On July 1st, residents will be able to add their cell phones to the do-not-call-list to avoid receiving unwanted texts and calls from telemarketers and scammers.

The Mississippi Public Service Commission will handle the service, and Commissioner Brandon Presley said the addition is essential because “more than half” the homes in Mississippi are “cell phone-only”

“It’s annoying, but its also, to me, and invasion of our people’s privacy…”, said Presley about the unsolicited calls.

“When you get home, you don’t want somebody calling you up, trying to sell you some product of service. You want to be left alone.”

Residents can sign up for the service at the Public Service Commission’s website at psc.state.ms.us or call Presley’s office at 1-800-637-7722.

Once applied for, Presley said its a sixty day process before residents should expect to see the unwanted calls begin to stop.

Presley said the service won’t eliminate all telemarketing or scamming phone calls, but when they do happen, he hopes residents will report any calls.
