Check Cashing Firm To Close Some Locations

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – A Mississippi-based check cashing company fighting legal battles against state and federal regulators says it’s closing some stores in Alabama and Louisiana.

All American Check Cashing Inc. also said in a Wednesday news release that it will forgive loans to customers affected by the closures.  The release said All American will still operate 42 Mississippi stores and one in Louisiana.

The company says it is closing stores as it focuses attention on what it calls unfair and unjustified allegations made by the U.S. Consumer Finance Protection Bureau and the Mississippi State Department of Banking and Consumer Finance.

The federal agency filed suit in May, accusing the company of overcharging some customers. The company also is involved in disputes with the Mississippi agency.
