Video: Columbus Fire And Police Departments See Handful Of Retirements

COLUMBUS, Miss (WCBI)- Some changes are on the way to the Columbus police and fire departments.

Councilmen will consider the resignation of two police officers and the hiring of two certified patrolmen.

Mayor Robert Smith is also scheduled to swear-in three new officers at the council’s Tuesday night meeting.

Staffing levels have recently remained near 70, after dropping as low as 45 earlier this year.

In the fire department, a captain is retiring and four new firemen are scheduled to be sworn-in.
