Columbus student arrested for threatening to shoot up school

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Columbus High School student was arrested after threatening to shoot up the school.

Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton said he became aware of the threat Sunday afternoon, after it was posted on social media.

The teen is charged with Cyberstalking in youth court. His name is not being released because he’s a juvenile.

CPD is working with the school district on the investigation. The school could also discipline the student.

Shelton said the student was having some issues at school but the incident remains under investigation.

The police chief also wants to remind teens there are consequences for making these social media posts. Also if you see something threatening online, don’t assume officers know about it.
