Deadly Storm System Brings Damage to North MS And West AL

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A powerful storm system brought high winds and flooding rains to north Mississippi and west Alabama on Saturday.

The damage was reported at a school in Baldwyn. A possible tornado also caused damage in Tishomingo County.

Emergency Management Directors in Monroe, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Webster, Oktibbeha, and Lowndes County reported flooding.

WCBI viewers reported floodwaters in Clay County.

Lowndes County Emergency Management reported several trees down. Those trees were reported down on Military, Woodridge, and Mt. Vernon Roads. A power line was down on South Frontage Road, near Memorial Cemetery. A tree also fell on a house at 1158 Yorkville Road.

In Pickens County, Alabama a tornado reportedly caused damage to several homes on Settlement Road and County Road 7. Sheriff Todd Hall tells WCBI several people were injured in the storm. A search and rescue operation is underway in the county.

WVUA in Tuscaloosa is reporting at least three confirmed fatalities in Pickens County.

More storm reports are expected to come in. WCBI has crews out in the field and will have the latest tonight at 6 & 10.
