BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) – An Alabama doctor is accused of illegally prescribing drugs that led to the death of longtime 3 Doors Down guitarist Matt Roberts.

Newly unsealed court documents show Dr. Richard Snellgrove of Fairhope, Alabama, is charged with illegally prescribing Fentanyl and other drugs to Roberts days before he was found dead of a overdose in August in West Bend, Wisconsin.

Records show Snellgrove was named in a six-count indictment in October. The charges weren’t made public until a judge unsealed them last week.

The physician remains free on bond. A defense lawyer says Snellgrove did nothing wrong.

Roberts was a founding member of the Mississippi-based rock band but quit in 2012 citing health reasons. He co-wrote the band’s hit “Kryptonite.”

Court documents say Roberts had fought substance abuse problems.
