Father Charged With Murder After 8-Month Old Dies In Hot Car

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Police say a man has been charged with second-degree murder after his 8-month-old daughter died in his overheated car.

Grenada Assistant Police Chief George Douglas said Friday that 25-year-old Joshua Blunt is being held at the Grenada County Jail and that bail has been set at $250,000.

Grenada County Deputy Coroner Jo Morman says Blunt’s daughter Shania Caradine was found unconscious in the overheated car outside a restaurant where Blunt worked late Thursday afternoon.

Morman says the child was taken to a hospital where physicians tried unsuccessfully to revive her for hours. She says an autopsy is being conducted.

Caradine is the second child to die in a hot car in Mississippi this month. No charges have been filed in the previous case.
