FedEx Founder Speaks at Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI)- A special guest spoke at the University of Mississippi honors convocation on Wednesday.

FedEx founder Frederick W. Smith was the keynote speaker at the fall convocation.

He even set a challenge for the University of Mississippi students. He challenged them to keep having educational conversations that aim towards solutions to national and even global issues.

Smith also spoke on entrepreneurship and how sometimes small ideas become big things.

“I think everybody has adversity in their life. I think the main thing I’d look for is an opportunity to turn adversity into advantage,” said Smith. “If you’re going to be an entrepreneur then your going to have an idea, you’re certainly going to have to be prepared for some set backs and things that wont workout the way you thought they’d work out. That’s the very essence of entrepreneurship is to be able to adjust and move toward your ultimate goal.”

Smith founded FedEx over 45 years ago. He told students how his now, global corporation started with a paper he wrote as a student at Yale.
