Fentanyl overdoses lead to 2 arrests in Amory

AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – Fentanyl overdoses led to two arrests in Amory.

30-year-old Travarus West and 20-year-old Dequavion Clifton were both charged in the 10-month-long investigation.

West was charged with trafficking fentanyl, possession of a firearm, and possession of a weapon by a felon.

Clifton was charged with two counts of sale of a controlled substance.

The trafficking and sale charges were enhanced due to the location of a nearby church.

Police said the investigation started after an alarming number of fentanyl overdoses in the area.

Monroe and Lee County deputies, along with Tupelo and Fulton police and the North Mississippi Narcotics Unit, worked the case.

Clifton was out of jail on a $75,000 bond.

West had a hold from the Department of Corrections.

More arrests were expected.
