Firefighter Injured While Battling Blaze

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)- A Tupelo Firefighter is hospitalized after being injured when responding to an early morning house fire Monday.

Fire crews were called to a home on Church and Walker Streets just after 8:30 a.m.

Fire Chief Thomas Walker says that no one was inside at the time the blaze started.

The firefighter injured, somehow fell while fighting the fire according to the city communications director.

They say he has no broken bones, but has a sore neck. The good news, Chief Walker says his fireman is in good spirits.

The fireman was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center and has since been released.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
